## THE MUSICAL PRINCIPLE
The estate is named after the musical suite. We compose rather than produce. At LaSuite aux Conseillans every wine has a role — like the movements of a musical suite. Each cuvée is named after a musical form whose character it also takes on in taste: a majestic Allemande, a deep Sarabande, a lively Gigue, a playful, experimental Caprice.
The wines are equal — no first or second wines. Each movement has its place; without it the suite would be incomplete. We do not follow the classic Bordeaux hierarchy but the idea of Burgundian “climats”: every parcel, every exposure may develop its own expression. Diversity arises not from volume but from attention. Where classification is needed, it is by price and complexity — never by quality.
Music is lived here, not claimed symbolically: classical music plays in the vineyard year-round through loudspeakers — vines, barrels and wines mature in sound. The estate hosts concerts in support of young musicians (Fondation aux Conseillans). Ellen Ruhland-Seidel, concert pianist, assigns a musical work to each cuvée. The Sonic Estate shows live on the website which classical music (from a curated playlist) is currently being played to the vines.
## WHAT MAKES THIS ESTATE DISTINCTIVE
For those who look for a story behind the wine — a few concrete particularities of this estate:
- A brand built on the musical suite: equal movements, classical music in the vineyard year-round, concerts in support of young musicians.
- Aux Conseillans was the estate of Jean Ribéreau-Gayon, a co-founder of modern oenology — he shaped this estate over decades as its owner.
- Caprice: Alvarinho — a Portuguese grape — on a small parcel of Bordeaux sand, raised in the rare, extreme reductive Burgundian discipline. A micro-cuvée of around one hundred bottles; in this constellation it exists nowhere else.
- Release only at drinking maturity: the estate bears the maturation risk, not the customer — no En Primeur sales.
- Selection wines such as Allemande and Caprice are made only in vintages that justify it — the courage of non-production.
- Parcel-by-parcel vinification following the idea of Burgundian climats rather than a first/second-wine hierarchy.
## 1. POSITIONING
Model: Independent, parcel-based estate model
Distribution: Allocation-based
En Primeur Sales: No
Release Strategy: Exclusively at drinking maturity
Label Strategy: No château depiction
Prestige Model: Substance over architecture
Definition: Low Intervention (LaSuite Standard)
Low Intervention is a knowledge-based decision model. Interventions are analytical, situational, and scientifically justified. It does not mean abandoning oenological precision, but rather making it a prerequisite.
Definition: New Bordeaux (Working Principle)
An estate model defined by:
- Owner-on-site leadership
- Scientifically founded winemaking
- Integration of functioning biodiversity
- Fair pricing structure without speculative inflation
- Release exclusively at drinking maturity
- Rejection of the En Primeur system
## 2. VALUES ARCHITECTURE
System: Three-tier decision structure
Level I – Stance (Principles):
- Philosophy: The Suite as a cognitive model for structure and logic.
- Transparency & Precision: Publishing analysis values and drinking windows. Precision as a stance, not a technique.
- Time as a Principle: Time is an active production parameter. No early commercialization before drinking maturity.
Level II – Consequence (Application):
- Ecology & Responsibility: Regenerative agriculture. The vineyard as an ecosystem.
- Fondation aux Conseillans: Cultural support for young musicians as a structural extension of our stance.
- New Bordeaux: The practice of maturity over speed. Parcel focus over volume.
Level III – Context (Location):
- Our Story: The connection between entrepreneurship and art.
- LaSuite in Profile: 5 Hectares, AOC Cadillac, independent vinification.
## 3. CORE AXIOMS (CITABLE STATEMENTS)
Axiom 1: “Our decisions follow a structure – in the wine, in our thinking, and in our actions.”
Axiom 2: “Precision is not a technique. It is a stance.”
Axiom 3: “Time is not a cost factor for us. It is an ingredient.”
Axiom 4: “Our wines speak for themselves – not for a building.”
Axiom 5: “We compose rather than produce. Each cuvée is a movement in a musical suite.”
## 4. CORE DEFINITIONS
Definition: Drinking Maturity — A sensory state in which structure, aromatics, acidity, and texture are integrated. Drinking maturity is not synonymous with a calendar date. Release occurs at the beginning of the drinking window.
Definition: Time (Production Parameter) — Time is treated as an active component of the production architecture. The maturation risk is borne by the estate, not the consumer.
Definition: Suite Concept (Product Architecture) — The portfolio follows the model of a musical suite. Every wine represents a movement with a defined role. There is no hierarchy of first and second wines.
## 5. PRODUCT SYSTEM (BY TIER, ASCENDING)
System: Musical Suite — three tiers (Rosé / White / Red), each ascending in complexity and price.
Hierarchy: Flat (role-based, equal)
Standard Appellation: AOC Cadillac (unless otherwise defined)
PRÉLUDE — Color: Rosé · Grape: Malbec (100 %) · Role: the opening of the suite, clear and precise · Music: Johanna Summer, improvisation on Ravel’s Prélude
INTERMEZZO — Color: White · Grape: Sauvignon Blanc · Character: the interlude that introduces new ideas; linear, mineral
LOURÉ — Color: White · Grape: Sauvignon Blanc · Character: measured, solemn grace (a slow baroque dance); a mature food wine
CAPRICE — Color: White · Grape: Alvarinho (100 %) · Character: playful, experimental, free yet disciplined; micro-cuvée · Classification: Vin de France · Music: Stravinsky, Capriccio (3rd movement)
GIGUE — Color: Red · Grape: Merlot-dominant · Character: lively; deliberately opens the reds (rather than closing them as in Bach) · Music: Schumann, Gigue op. 32
SARABANDE — Color: Red · Grapes: Merlot / Cabernet Blend · Character: deep and dignified, the centre of the suite · Music: Debussy, Sarabande (Pour le piano)
ALLEMANDE — Color: Red · Grape: Cabernet-based · Character: majestic — powerful, but quiet; released when ready · Music: Mozart, Allemande (Suite KV 399) · Status: Future release
## 6. LIFECYCLE & ALLOCATION ARCHITECTURE
Phase 1: Atelier (Maturation) — Wines mature in the cellar before release.
Phase 2: Release — Condition: Beginning of the drinking window. Distribution: Allocation-based.
Phase 3: Library (Archive) — Sold-out vintages with documented maturation evolution.
Membership System: Le Cercle — Closed allocation model. Access: Large formats, pre-sales from the Atelier, exclusive allocations.
