Why La Suite?
La Suite is a name with many layers – musical, historical, and programmatic. Suite embodies the idea of dividing a great work into clearly defined movements – each independent, yet together forming a harmonious whole. The term brings our wines into the world of music, continues the work of Jean Ribéreau-Gayon, signals the dawn of a "New Bordeaux" with fresh wines and direct access to the connoisseur, and evokes the excellence of a suite in a top hotel. The fermata in our emblem marks the moment of pause that gives space to the new.
La Suite – one name, many levels
Suite is the idea of dividing a great work into clearly defined movements – each independent, yet together forming a harmonious whole. This very principle shapes our winery. La Suite refers simultaneously to music, history, quality, and a new beginning: each wine is its own movement, each vineyard plot a voice, each vintage a new variation – but only their interplay allows the complete work to resonate.
1 | The musical suite as a leitmotif
Baroque suites follow a dramatic order: Prélude, Allemande, Courante, Sarabande, Gigue… – sometimes lively, sometimes contemplative, always interwoven. This is how we conceived our collection. A Capriccio made from 100% Alvarinho has a playful quality, while a Sarabande made from classic Bordeaux grape varieties possesses depth and gravitas. The musical structure makes diversity understandable, tangible, and emotional – for connoisseurs who understand wine as a cultural asset.
2 | The Legacy of Jean Ribéreau-Gayon
La Suite also stands for continuation. For many years, the estate was owned by Jean Ribéreau-Gayon, the father of modern oenology and co-founder of the Bordeaux Faculty of Oenology. His pursuit of precision and a spirit of experimentation shape our work – without him, our current quality standards would be inconceivable.
3 | New Bordeaux – A new beginning instead of stagnation
The term "New Bordeaux" encapsulates our approach: fresh, elegant wines with moderate alcohol; a direct relationship with the connoisseur instead of anonymous retail chains; regenerative agriculture on a vineyard that has been designated a separate nature reserve since 1975. We are continuing the story of Bordeaux – but differently, more consciously.
4 | The fermata – our symbol of tension and pause
In music, a fermata marks the moment when sound and silence are stretched. This moment of tension opens up space for depth, reflection, and new beginnings.
- Take a breath – We give the tradition a moment of rest in order to understand its core.
- Feel the resonance – allow nature, terroir and time to work; vines listen to sheep, bees, wind…
- Raising a new note – After the fermata, the melody continues – familiar, but with a fresh color.
The fermata on our labels serves as a reminder to pause before the first sip sets the pace.
5 | What this means for you
If you understand wine as a cultural experience, La Suite aux Conseillans invites you to consciously discover every phrase – in the tranquility of a fermata, in the rhythm of a baroque dance sequence, in the quality of a grand suite, and in the exuberance of a New Bordeaux. Welcome to a Bordeaux that begins quietly – and lingers long after.
6 | Why "aux Conseillans"
Our site was already described as "Aux Conseillans" in Cassini's historical maps under Napoleon. We wish to maintain this connection to our terroir.
