Baroque texture meets saline depth. A white wine with shoulders, richness and maturity.

The Louré takes its name from a Baroque dance: measured, with an emphasised line, unhurried. The wine picks that up — Sauvignon blanc, but not one you would recognise as such. It grows on a single plot, surrounded by woodland and sloping west; cool nights keep the tension in the grape.

The long months in oval clay amphorae give it texture rather than fruit — enveloping, calm, with a finish that stays. It is therefore not an aperitif: it needs a dish that stands on its own, poultry, veal, fish in sauce or mature cheese. 1,211 bottles, drinking window to 2040 — unusually long for a Sauvignon blanc.

Why Louré

Louré, a baroque dance of measured, solemn character and pronounced line, stands for grave grace and noble expression – qualities that also shape this...

Louré forms the deliberate counterweight to linearity. It exists to show that white wine in Bordeaux may take up space – through texture, not through volume.

Johann Sebastian Bach — Louré, Partita No. 3 in E major, BWV 1006

In the glass

The flavour profile

A ripe, multi-layered fruit — yellow fruit and a hint of citrus, with a fine herbal depth. Full and gastronomic on the palate: an enveloping, precise texture from the long ageing in oval clay amphorae, carried by fresh acidity and a long, quiet finish. A white wine with stature that joins time and food.

Maturity — how it drinks today

Two years of ageing

today Cellar ageing Ascent Plateau Decline 2024 2040 2045

2024 (white): A very wet winter and spring with an early, unusually heavy infestation of downy mildew; persistent dampness characterized the season. Flowering and fruit set suffered in some cases (Coulure/Millerandage), September was cool and wet – overall the smallest harvest since 1991. Nevertheless, the dry white wines often present themselves as aromatic, vibrant and fresh, and rather light in alcohol.

The terroir and the wine it yields
The terroir and the wine it yields

Where it comes from

The Louré grows on a single plot: around one hectare of Sauvignon blanc, vines roughly fifteen years old on a thin topsoil over limestone. The limestone beneath gives the wine its cool, limestone-borne freshness and its straight, upright line — the backbone on which the texture from the long ageing in amphora rests.

The plot lies surrounded by woodland, sloping to the west; cool nights and soft evening light hold freshness and tension in the grape. One plot, one grape variety, one soil — calm, precise, laid out entirely for length.

Precision & method
Precision & method

In the tradition of modern oenology

Aux Conseillans was for decades the domaine of Jean Ribéreau-Gayon — one of the co-founders of modern oenology, founder of the Institute of Oenology at the University of Bordeaux (1949) and longtime owner of the estate. We work in this tradition: each plot analysed and vinified separately, the ageing guided under control, the release only after proven readiness to drink.

Our stance

Why we take the trouble

01

Released only when ready to drink

We bring a vintage to market only when it is ready to drink. We carry the ageing risk.

02

Composed plot by plot

Each plot is vinified separately; only at the end do we compose the cuvée from them.

03

Time as an ingredient

Depth needs time. We give the wines the years in barrel and bottle that they need.

04

Organic & HVE4

The Domaine's vineyards are certified organic and HVE4, embedded in a 19-hectare ecosystem of woodland, meadows, water and vines.

Frequently asked questions

Good to know

When should I drink the Louré?
From release and over many years — a white wine built to age, gaining in expression until around 2040.
How cool should I serve it?
At 14–16 °C — not ice-cold, so that texture and long finish can show. An hour of air does it good.
Is this a light summer white?
No — a full, gastronomic white with texture and stature, aged in clay amphorae. Made for the table, not as an aperitif.
What does it pair with?
With fish in sauce, poultry, veal and fine, mature cheese — dishes with a weight of their own.
Which grape variety is it made from?
100 % Sauvignon blanc, vinified in a full, gastronomic style.
Why clay amphora?
The long ageing in oval clay amphorae lets the lees move naturally and gives an enveloping, precise texture — without oak aroma.
How long does it keep?
It is built for long ageing and develops over the years until around 2040.

The repertoire

The other movements of the Suite

Each cuvée has its own voice, from the rosé to the red that needs decades. In weak years we simply do not make one of them; that is why the repertoire is rarely complete.
