New Bordeaux: Our compass for the future
We make wine out of a very personal motivation: We want to produce wines that touch people, that are honest, and that we ourselves enjoy drinking. In response to the changes in our region, we launched the New Bordeaux initiative.
It's not a rigid set of rules for us, but an ethical compass. Together with a growing community, we are looking for ways in which winemaking in the 21st century can be more humane, natural, and sustainable.
Our 7 principles at Château LaSuite
New Bordeaux is part of our daily practice. This is how we interpret these values in our work:
1. Authenticity (Owner-on-Site)
Wine is a deeply personal matter for us. That's why we live and work directly on the estate. We believe that responsibility for nature cannot be delegated. When you open a bottle of ours, you experience the result of our personal decisions and manual labor, not the product of an anonymous corporation.
2. True biodiversity
A vineyard is part of nature, not an isolated system. We strive to bring life back to the vines. By integrating trees, hedges, and water features, we create a balance. Healthy soils and a vibrant environment naturally strengthen the vines – and we believe this vitality is reflected in the wine.
3. Fair Value & Fair Work
Sustainability is also a social issue. For us, "fair value" means that the price of a bottle reflects the honest work that goes into it. This guarantees fair wages for everyone working in the vineyard and ensures the continuation of the craft. It's a price for genuine value, not speculation.
4. Curated Maturity (Time)
Good Bordeaux needs time to reach its full potential. Our principle is uncompromising: we only offer a wine for sale when it has reached its optimal drinking window – no matter how many years that takes. We take on the patience and the risk of storage for you, so you can be sure: when you buy a bottle from us, it's ready for perfect enjoyment.
5. Scientific Craft
We don't use science to control nature, but to understand it better. Precise analyses – from the soil in the vineyard to fermentation in the cellar – give us the confidence to intervene as little as possible. Knowledge allows us to practice restraint ("low intervention") so that the wine can develop its own character.
6. Quality over convention
We prioritize taste over rigid rules. If it benefits the wine, we'll sometimes deviate from classic guidelines – be it in the care of the vines or the blending of the cuvée. Our goal is not to meet a standard, but to make the best possible wine our soil can produce.
7. Proximity & Transparency
Wine should connect people. It's important to us that you don't just consume a drink, but understand the story behind it: Who are the people who made this wine? What does the soil tell us? With our "Wine as Music" concept, we try to build this emotional bridge and make wine tangible and experiential for you.
