Recorded habitat diversity names which groups of species were surveyed, at what density, and how this stock changes over several years. Without repeated surveying, a statement about biodiversity remains an impression.

Criteria

• The survey names groups of species, not just their total count
• It distinguishes the cultivated vineyard from its edge
• It is surveyed repeatedly, not once
• A decline is recorded just as an increase is

Distinction

Biodiversity ≠ ecological resilience: resilience describes how a vineyard system responds to disturbance, biodiversity the stock available for that response. Biodiversity ≠ biodiversity as ripening buffer: the buffer is an effect, recorded habitat diversity the underlying stock it draws on.
