Blind tasting: judgment without a label

The standard

The concealed tasting removes every piece of information that could steer the judgment before the glass is assessed. What remains is perception itself.

Criteria

  • Origin, producer and price are concealed before the judgment
  • The order of the wines is mixed against expectation
  • The judgment falls before the reveal, not after
  • The result is recorded before the name is known

Distinction

Blind tasting ≠ open tasting: there the name accompanies the glass and shapes expectation. The concealed tasting measures the wine, the open one often only confirms the reputation.
