Elegance: proportion, not weight

The standard

Ordered proportion asks not how much a wine shows, but whether what is shown stays in balance: alcohol, acidity, tannin and fruit without any part in excess.

Criteria

• No component steps forward on its own
• Effect arises from proportion, not from quantity
• Power remains present, but subordinate
• The judgement is testable on the wine, not mere preference

Distinction

Elegance ≠ power: one orders, the other emphasises. Elegance ≠ lightness: a wine can be powerful and yet elegant. Ordered proportion measures the balance, not the weight.
