Decision Bias: Pattern, Not Single Case
The standard
A recurring pattern of judgment is named and checked against the individual case before it shapes a decision. Left unnamed, it acts regardless of whether the case supports it.
Criteria
- The pattern shows up across several decisions
- It acts in a recognisable direction
- It persists regardless of the individual case
- It is named before it shapes the next choice
Distinction
Decision bias ≠ decision error: the error concerns a single choice, a recurring pattern of judgment several choices in the same direction. Decision bias ≠ good decision: it makes criteria visible before the choice, a recurring pattern of judgment acts precisely where that visibility is missing.
