Filtration destroys wine: judgement, not finding

The standard

A process-specific effect claim states which filtration, at which cut-off, is meant and against what the effect is measured. Without these, „destroys“ is a value judgement, not a finding.

Criteria

• It names the specific method and its cut-off
• It separates clarification from the removal of desired constituents
• It states the reference against which a loss is established
• It applies to a specific wine, not to filtration in general

Distinction

Filtration destroys wine ≠ Filtration in wine: one is a judgement, the other the process. Filtration destroys wine ≠ Low intervention: forgoing filtration is a decision with its own risk, not a quality tier. A process-specific effect claim replaces the blanket verdict with the question of method and measure.
