Mesoclimate: site, not region

The standard

The delimited climate scale states at which spatial level a climate statement holds: for the region, the site or the individual vine.

Criteria

  • The scale names its level: region, site or vine
  • It follows from landform and aspect, not from the regional average
  • It stays stable while the weather changes
  • It denotes a place, not a period

Distinction

Mesoclimate ≠ macroclimate: the macroclimate describes an entire region, the mesoclimate a single site within it. Mesoclimate ≠ microclimate: the microclimate acts around the individual vine. The delimited climate scale separates these levels so that a climate statement keeps its scope.
