The standard

The observed remaining life is the span in which an opened wine retains its profile, established on the wine itself and not derived from a rule of thumb.

Criteria

• The span is established on the individual wine, not estimated by color or category
• The volume left in the bottle determines the amount of oxygen and thus the pace
• The storage temperature after opening belongs to the statement, not only the time
• The end of the span is a sensory finding, not an expiry date

Distinction

Open bottle ≠ ageing potential: ageing potential applies to the sealed wine, the observed remaining life to the opened one. Open bottle ≠ oxidation: oxidation is the process, the open bottle the state that permanently permits it.
