Oxygen ingress: amount, not answer
The standard
A balanced oxygen supply sums all sources over time instead of looking at a single operation. Only the sum decides whether a wine matures or oxidises.
Criteria
- All routes of ingress are added up, not judged singly
- The amount counts as mass per volume, not as a counted operation
- The period over which the supply applies is named
- Supply and consumption are kept separate
Distinction
Oxygen ingress ≠ oxygen affinity: ingress is the amount supplied, affinity the wine's capacity to consume it. Oxygen ingress ≠ micro-oxygenation: micro-oxygenation is one deliberate route, oxygen ingress their sum with all the rest. A balanced oxygen supply counts both in one account.
