Second wine: a selection, not a rank

The standard

The declared lot selection makes plain by what criteria the separation was made: vine age, barrel choice or the course of ageing. Without this statement "second wine" stays a label without content.

Criteria

  • The criterion of the separation is named
  • The selection follows origin or ageing, not chance
  • The second wine has its own profile, not a leftover role
  • The term orders the origin, not the worth

Distinction

Second wine ≠ lesser wine: the separation orders lots, it does not grade a quality. The declared lot selection describes how the choice was made, not how good the result is.
