A boutique winery at the gates of Bordeaux
We are Marc and Ellen Ruhland. Since 2023 we have run the Domaine aux Conseillans — an estate of 19 hectares of woodland, meadows, water and vines, less than half an hour from Bordeaux. On five of them our wines grow, and we think of them like a musical suite: equal movements, each with its own voice. Ellen, a concert pianist, has assigned a piece to each cuvée, and in summer young musicians play here.
We release a vintage only once it is ready to drink — we carry the ageing risk, not you. The estate was shaped over decades by Jean Ribéreau-Gayon, one of the co-founders of modern oenology and its long-standing owner; his precision is still at work today.

Why these three
Three movements, one arc. The Gigue opens the reds — juicy cherry fruit over firm tannin, a wine with movement. The Sarabande stands in the middle of the red range: darker, calmer, more layered, a wine for the second hour. And the Louré is a Sauvignon Blanc in a different voice — long aged in the amphora, serious and meant for the table.
The three are equal movements of the same suite. The order tells the story of an evening — where you begin, where it leads — and implies no ranking. Individually the three cost 120 €; as a set 100 €, shipping included.
The three movements
Two red wines and one white, each with its own voice. From each movement a path leads to its full page — with vintage, vinification and drinking window.

Gigue
A Merlot-based Bordeaux blend with a little Cabernet and Malbec, aged in concrete vats with a small share of barrique. The opening of the reds: cherry fruit and energy over firm tannin. Pairs with grilled dishes and hearty braises.

Sarabande
A Merlot-led Bordeaux blend from all four red grape varieties of the Domaine, 18 months in barrique. The middle of the range: dark, sustained, a long, calm finish. Pairs with game, ox cheeks and slow braises — open it an hour beforehand.

Louré
A single-varietal Sauvignon Blanc, long aged on the lees in a clay amphora — closer to a Sancerre than to the classic Bordeaux Sauvignon, serious and meant for the table. Pairs with poultry, veal and fish in rich preparations; serve cool at 14 to 16 degrees.
How to drink the set
Begin with the Louré, well chilled at 14 to 16 degrees, with something rich from poultry or veal. Then the Gigue at 16 to 18 degrees, with grilled food or a braise. And for a calm close, the Sarabande, opened an hour beforehand, with game or something slowly braised. Three glasses, one evening — and you can hear how the movements interlock.
