Old vines = better quality: age is no proof

The standard

A proven effect of age shows in lower yield and deeper rooting of a specific parcel, not in the words "old vines". Without such proof, age stays a number with no bearing on quality.

Criteria

• The term "old vines" is not legally defined
• Lower yield can concentrate fruit, but need not
• Soil, climate and work weigh more than age
• The effect must be shown parcel by parcel

Distinction

"Old vines = better quality" ≠ vine age: vine age is measurable, the quality claim a conclusion that does not hold on its own. It follows that a proven effect of age replaces the assertion with evidence.
