Flavor length: duration, not strength

The standard

Measured flavor length counts the time during which a clear impression persists, from swallowing to its disappearance. What matters is the continuous after-echo, not a single lingering note.

Criteria

• Measurement begins with swallowing or spitting
• A continuous, clear impression is counted
• A single residual note does not count as lasting length
• The duration is independent of the intensity of the impression

Distinction

Flavor length ≠ intensity: one measures how long an impression stays, the other how strong it is. Flavor length ≠ finish: the finish is the overall impression after swallowing, the length only its extent in time. Measured flavor length thus separates duration from force.
