Critic points measure quality: a misconception
The standard
A reproducible measurement yields the same value under the same conditions, regardless of who takes it. Critic points do not meet this: they hang on the taster's judgement and the moment of the sample.
Criteria
- A measurement gives the same value under the same conditions
- It is independent of the person who takes it
- Critic points vary between tasters and points in time
Distinction
Critic points ≠ quality measurement: points express a judgement, a measurement yields a reproducible value. The reproducible measurement shows the difference, because a point value comes out differently with another person or another day. Critic points ≠ classification systems: classifications rank estates permanently, points judge a single sample.
