Micro-oxygenation: a measured dose
The standard
The measured oxygen dose derives amount and timing from the state of the wine, not from a fixed scheme.
Criteria
- The amount follows the measured state, not a fixed value
- It stays small enough to create development, not oxidation
- Its timing is bound to the ageing phase, not the calendar
- Its effect is verified before the next dose
Distinction
Micro-oxygenation ≠ oxidation: oxidation is an uncontrolled oxygen ingress that damages a wine, micro-oxygenation a measured oxygen dose with limited effect. Micro-oxygenation ≠ barrel ageing: barrel ageing releases oxygen slowly through the wood, micro-oxygenation adds it deliberately.
