Criteria

• The sample comes from a specific barrel or tank, not the finished blend
• The judgment addresses structure and potential, not finished drinking pleasure
• The sample is marked as provisional, not as a final verdict
• The tasting date relative to harvest is stated

Distinction

En primeur ≠ En Primeur: A Sales Model, not a Maturity Promise: en primeur refers to the tasting and sale before bottling, the sales model describes the resulting market logic with decoupled pricing. An assessed cask sample ≠ the finished bottle: the entire remaining ageing period lies between them.
