Intensity vs. Integration: A Common Error

The standard

An axis-separated assessment records strength and connection as two independent values. A high value on one axis says nothing about the value on the other.

Criteria

• Strength and connection are recorded separately, not merged into one score
• A powerful wine does not count as young for that reason, a restrained one not as mature
• The stimulus is described before it is judged
• Every statement names the axis it refers to

Distinction

Intensity ≠ integration: one measures the strength of a stimulus, the other its embedding. Intensity ≠ drinking maturity: a wine loses stimulus strength over the years without becoming mature by that alone. Where an axis-separated assessment is missing, loudness is read as youth and restraint as maturity.
