Vintage depth: the year stays legible
The standard
The legible vintage signature requires the wine to carry the course of a year's weather instead of levelling it. The measure is the distinguishability of the vintages, not their uniformity.
Criteria
- Two vintages stay distinguishable side by side
- The course of the weather is readable in the wine
- No process levels the differences
- The house's hand still stays recognisable
Distinction
Vintage depth ≠ consistency: consistency wants sameness across the years, vintage depth wants the difference kept legible. The legible vintage signature measures how much of the year stays in the wine.
