Perception dynamics: a course, not a moment

The standard

An observed perception curve records in what order and for how long the impressions succeed one another, rather than naming a single peak.

Criteria

  • It captures several points in time, not a single impression
  • It distinguishes attack, development and finish
  • It names duration, not intensity alone
  • It stays bound to the tasting, not to expectation

Distinction

Perception dynamics ≠ intensity: intensity measures the strength of an impression, the observed perception curve its change over time. Perception dynamics ≠ finish: the finish is a single phase, the dynamics the whole course.
