IDENTITY & PRINCIPLE

Context - Why details matter in viticulture

Quality rarely arises from grand gestures, but from many small, consistent decisions.

In winemaking, there is much talk about grand principles: sustainability, style, origin. These terms are important, but explain little if they are not anchored in everyday practice.

Our experience is that quality arises from details. From decisions that often remain invisible: when a tractor doesn't drive, when a cut is delayed, when one waits instead of intervening.

It is a misconception to assume that details are secondary. In complex systems, it is precisely the small adjustments that have a long-term impact.

Details demand attention. They cannot be automated and can only be standardized to a limited extent. Those who pay attention to details accept variance and learn from deviations.

This approach contradicts the logic of rapid optimization. It is slower, but more resilient. Mistakes are not concealed, but understood.

Coherence arises from the interplay of many details. It is difficult to explain, but easy to feel.

The calm conclusion is this: details are not an end in themselves. They are the prerequisite for principles to be effective in the first place.
