Bordeaux as a Gift: Maturity instead of Renown

The standard

An uncertainty-proof selection keeps small the number of assumptions that must hold for the bottle to convince at the moment it is opened.

Criteria

  • The bottle is drinkable at the unknown moment of opening
  • It requires no storage conditions the recipient must have at hand
  • It presupposes no prior knowledge on the part of the recipient
  • The renown of a name replaces none of these conditions

Distinction

Choosing a gift ≠ choosing a label: the renown of a name says nothing about drinkability at an uncertain moment. An uncertainty-proof selection therefore rests on drinking maturity.
